Since the first days after the Dec 26, 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the principals of DRA have been involved in nearly every aspect of relief and reconstruction efforts in southern Thailand. Both Directors have built award winning relief organizations and established a reputation for thorough and well thought out projects. The background of the two Directors in the hospitality business, financial management, international consulting and publishing have been useful tools in managing the myriad of issues facing the areas recovering from this disaster. Areas that the group have had experience includes the management of emergency relief and resettlement, reconstruction, legal aid, child protection, employment, gender issues, microcredit projects and community affairs.
Disaster Research Associates offers unique research and consulting capabilities, combining first hand local knowledge of the tsunami disaster, with international standard capabilities. Mr. Apichat Lanlongsa is a native born Krabi Thailand native. Previously the General Manager of a resort on Phi Phi Island when the tsunami hit, Mr. Lanlongsa has been involved in the creation of several award winning community organizations. His reputation as an honest, hard working social worker, has gained him the trust of many of the marginalized communities in southern Thailand. This ability to have full access to the local communities is unique, and a major success factor in the projects he has worked on over the past three years.
Mr. Robert Reynolds, a Wall Street investment banker for 15 years, has a wide variety of business experience in Asia, owning several operating businesses in Thailand for the past 14 years. A permanent Thai resident, he has been a business consultant for the past 8 years and a published freelance writer for over 20 years. Mr. Reynolds also is a director of The Sriphong Phukaoluan Foundation, which was awarded the Number One Foundation for the Tsunami Affected Provinces by the League of Foundations of Thailand..
Teamed together, the two principals of DRA have a unique position of international experience and local access to research on the tsunami and disaster related issues. DRA has produced quality research and publications for international NGOs and agencies who do not have the time or experience to provide in-depth analysis on these topics.
